PRINCE CRYSTAL SHIELD

Crystal Shield is a royal changeling-pony hybrid who takes the form of a white-coated pegacorn with a tri-tone blue mane & tail, and blue hooves and wingtips.

Crystal is the child of Queen Chrysalis and Shining Armor. He was conceived while Chrysalis was impersonating Princess Cadance during her failed attempt to conquer Canterlot in her quest to take over Equestria. She was intending to conceive a new princess changeling but ended up with a very rare male instead. Nevertheless, she saw his usefulness in successive attempts to overthrow Equestria, and so she nurtured him, naming him Shiny Button.

However, when Prince Mark Wells and his allies conquered her hive, Button was taken to his shocked sire. Despite his origin, Cadance insisted on adopting Shining's illegitimate child. Raised within a loving environment, Button grew strong and happy, quickly and unconsciously adopting a pegacorn pony form that resembled his sire's coloration. For a while, he reverted whenever he needed to feed on love, but he soon matured enough that his pony form became permanent unless he deliberately shape-changes. At this point, his parents decided that he needed a new name, and so Shiny Button became Crystal Shield.

Crystal (or just Crys as a nickname) grew up in much the same way as his half-sisters, Flurry Heart and Skyla. He fell into a relationship with Gemini, fascinated by their dual nature. Because he could shape-change, Crystal could change his gender to suit the emotional needs of his lover – being a stallion when they were female, and changing to a mare when they were male. Gemini eventually proposed and Crystal accepted. Their marriage cemented the union between Equestria and the Crystal Kingdom.
